Katie, Edmund, Jasmine and I have done some research on Palau, and I’ve learned that it is difficult to learn a lot about a small country’s culture without actually living there.
Luckily, Katie and I have been in contact with Kristen Burrows from Palau’s Ministry of Health, our partner organization. One thing that she told us is that Palauans generally do not like it when you try to convince them that something is a good idea simply because of the way it’s done in America. We should never say things like “Well that’s how we do it in America because it’s the American way and it’s the only way!”
She also told us that people usually wear jeans and t-shirts to work, but I plan to dress up on at least the first couple days since I’ve already purchased some nice new stuff with my helpful girlfriend.
